Genspark scales ‘Call for Me’ AI agent globally with Twilio Voice

Challenge
Genspark was scaling rapidly, and needed a strong communications foundation to expand globally, navigate telephony and compliance complexity, and ensure its AI platform could automate real-world tasks for users — including making phone calls on their behalf.
Solution
Genspark chose Twilio Programmable Voice to power Call for Me and scale its AI globally. Twilio provides the communications foundation for clear, reliable phone conversations in 40+ countries, enabling the AI to speak and act on behalf of users in multiple languages.
Unlike most AI platforms that only generate text responses, Genspark was built with a more ambitious purpose: to turn intelligence into action. Its platform brings together more than 100 capabilities that work seamlessly in the real world — from making phone calls and translating live conversations to managing travel plans and booking appointments — all without requiring users to juggle multiple apps.
One of Genspark’s most transformative features is its “Call for Me” AI agent, which makes outbound phone calls on behalf of users, communicates directly with businesses or individuals, and returns structured results from those conversations. It removes barriers such as language differences and long wait times, while automating multi-faceted processes. In short, Call for Me helps people turn intention into action, handling even complex real-world tasks and conversations with speed and confidence.
“We’re building a world where language barriers don’t exist, where distance doesn’t prevent connection, and where everyone has access to a highly capable communication assistant,” explains Greg Sun, Genspark’s Vice President of Engineering.
Since its launch in 2024, Genspark has attracted millions of users across more than 40 countries. However, to enable that growth, the company needed to simplify its telephony infrastructure across various markets, streamline compliance with complex international regulations, and improve call quality and reliability.
As usage grew, Genspark’s engineers found themselves spending disproportionate time on telephony and compliance challenges instead of innovation. The company realized it needed a partner to alleviate these problems, allowing it to focus on what it does best: delivering AI-powered experiences.
"We’re building a world where language barriers don’t exist, where distance doesn’t prevent connection and where everyone has access to a highly capable communication assistant."
Powering AI-driven voice conversations in real time
In its quest to bridge the gap between digital intelligence and real-world action, Genspark collaborated with Twilio to power its Call for Me agent with Twilio Programmable Voice. A cloud-based application programming interface (API) that enables companies to make, receive, and manage phone calls without building their own telephony infrastructure, Twilio Programmable Voice enables Genspark’s AI to:
- place domestic and international calls
- hold real-time, natural conversations
- support multilingual interactions
- manage bookings, reservations, and other tasks
- summarize outcomes for users.
This means users can delegate real-world tasks to Genspark, confident that Call for Me can handle the call, conversation, and outcome – regardless of the language, location, or complexity involved. It’s democratizing capabilities that once required specialised tools or dedicated staff. Now, anyone with an internet connection has access to these game-changing services.
For instance, if an English-speaking traveller needs to book a boutique hotel in Tokyo that doesn’t offer online reservations, they can ask Genspark to call the hotel on their behalf. The AI agent will then use Call for Me to conduct the entire conversation in Japanese. A few moments later, the user will receive a summary in English confirming their booking, late check-in, and breakfast details.
Alternatively, a small business owner who needs to check whether their top 50 suppliers have updated their prices can simply upload the supplier list to Call for Me. The AI agent will then call each supplier to gather information about pricing and availability. It will then return a consolidated report, saving the business owner the time and effort of making the calls himself.
Consistent performance is critical for powering these complex tasks and voice conversations, as real-time AI voice conversations depend on sub-second latency and consistent call quality. Twilio Programmable Voice ensures every Call for Me interaction remains clear and uninterrupted, delivering 99.97% uptime, sub-300-millisecond latency, and a 94.3% call success rate across continents and languages.
"With Twilio, we’re building AI assistants that don’t just chat – they take real action. They ‘pick up the phone’, make reservations, handle customer service, and coordinate logistics. We’re turning ‘I wish I could’ into ‘consider it done."
Simplifying international telephony and compliance complexity
As Genspark scaled from a fast-growing startup into a global platform used across more than 40 countries, it faced real-world telephony barriers that threatened to limit its expansion and growth. Every new market introduced new requirements: local number provisioning, complex telecom regulations, strict data-residency laws, and inconsistent call quality and latency.
Adopting Twilio Programmable Voice removed those barriers. With a single API, Genspark was able to scale seamlessly across borders without building custom telephony systems or local infrastructure in each market. Twilio’s fast number provisioning and global support enabled the company to accelerate its expansion – including countries like South Korea – where Genspark had not established an entity.
Twilio also helped Genspark navigate the complexity of global telecom regulations by handling compliance and data-residency requirements on its behalf. This includes ensuring compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by keeping call data within EU borders.
In addition, the company uses SendGrid for email campaigns and newsletters that drive user engagement. It also uses Twilio Verify to securely onboard new users from referral campaigns and minimise fraud.
"Great technology should be invisible but impactful. Users shouldn’t need to understand WebRTC, Tw/ML, or speech processing – they should just experience magic."
Delivering real-world impact at scale
Since its launch, Genspark has seen remarkable growth and engagement across its platform. Call volume for Call for Me has surged from just 10 calls per day to more than 800, powered by 180,000 unique users who use the feature.
These calls are not only frequent but meaningful, averaging 3.8 minutes each and driving significantly stronger user loyalty – callers who use Call for Me have a 3.2 times higher retention compared to users who don’t. More than half of users who make one successful call make another within seven days.
Notably, 23% of all calls leverage real-time language translation, underscoring the value of seamless multilingual communication and the broad, international appeal of Genspark’s capabilities
By removing the burden of telephony management, Twilio enables Genspark’s engineers to focus their time on AI innovation. This shift has made the company a more attractive place to work.
Twilio's pay-as-you-go model also encourages rapid experimentation – enabling Genspark to prototype and test new ideas without a significant investment or time commitment. This approach facilitates quick iterations of voice-driven AI features, enabling the team to focus on what is possible rather than merely feasible.
Looking ahead, the company is experimenting with new features, such as an AI conference interpreter for real-time multilingual translation, proactive AI calling triggered by events such as flight delays, and voice automation tools that allow small and medium-sized businesses to have their own AI receptionist.
With advancements like these, Genspark is poised to deliver even greater real-world impact for businesses and individuals alike – potential that is only beginning to be realized.
"We use Twilio because it bridges AI and communication seamlessly – turning ideas into real-world interaction. What would take us six months to build from scratch, we can deploy in just one afternoon using Twilio. More importantly, Twilio shares our vision – it understands we’re not just routing calls; we’re enabling human connections on a large scale. When your infrastructure partners get your mission, magic happens."
